Britney Spears “The Woman in Me”

Britney+Spears+The+Woman+in+Me
Mikayla Sekulich

Britney Spears memoir “The Woman in Me” tells the tear-jerking story of the exploitation and vulnerability of Americas pop princess. The story starts by painting the picture of an unstable southern home. Being surrounded by an alcoholic father growing up, Britney was enabled to start drinking and smoking at as young as 14. At the age of 26, Britney lost her rights, including full control over financial decisions and even her relationships. The story of Britney isn’t the first time Hollywood has seen a conservatorship. At the age of 27, rising star Amanda Bynes relinquished her rights, leaving all authority over her affairs to her mother. The factor that differentiates the two is the treatment while under conservatorship. Amanda Bynes lived a quiet life with the main priority of recovering meanwhile Britney was pushed into the spotlight even more, being forced to preform for a profit she would never earn. The mistreatment of Britney in Hollywood made it so she was no longer someone’s daughter, but instead a product with the purpose of being the main provider of the Spears family. Britneys memoir teaches a lesson to all to never assume without knowing the full story and take a deeper look into whats buried underneath the surface.

Hi! I'm Mikayla Sekulich a senior. I joined journalism because, during my sophomore year, my amazing English teacher convinced me to join journalism. I decided to give it a shot, to get out of my comfort zone and try something completely new. I immediately learned I had an eye for photography. This class made me realize that I want to study graphic design and photography in college. Thank you Mrs. Maestranzi for everything and for pushing me in the right direction. Journalism is important so people can share their voices. An interesting fact about me is I play volleyball!
