Grant Community High School’s Student Council is a student-driven organization dedicated to promoting school spirit and giving back to the community. Members plan and organize events throughout the school year, from Homecoming and spirit weeks to canned food drives, highway cleanups, and other service projects.
“Student Council gives students a voice and provides opportunities for leadership and development in the school,” said Vice President Vani Patel, a senior. “It’s a great way to get involved, help others, and build skills you’ll need for the future.”
Members gain experience in communication, teamwork, organization, and leadership, all of which can strengthen college and job applications. Gabriella Lima, a council member, said, “It’s a really great place to be social, create and help plan events, and it can also look great on your applications for college.”
The council operates like a small business, with officers and committees focused on different areas, including school events, community service, and spirit initiatives. Officers, including the vice president who steps in when the president is unavailable, help set agendas, lead meetings, and ensure projects run smoothly.
The Student Council plays a key role in making GCHS an enjoyable and welcoming place. Members help organize dances, holiday events, and spirit weeks, while also ensuring safety and adherence to school guidelines. Beyond school walls, they participate in community service projects that benefit the local area and encourage student involvement in meaningful causes.
Meetings are held on the first, third, and fifth Tuesday of each month, and all students are encouraged to bring ideas about Homecoming, school events, charitable projects like St. Baldrick’s, or ways to support Grant in general.
By joining Student Council, students not only contribute to the school and community, but also develop valuable skills that extend far beyond the classroom. If interested, email sponsors Payton Montemayor & Kayla Radtke.
