Diamonds are said to be one of the strongest materials in the world, but they’ve obviously never met this team. Four years of winning and losing had made this impeccable group of boys an indestructible force. This year, especially due to the unusual number of seniors.
With so many seniors come many determined souls. Win 25 games. Win regional. Win NLCC. These 3 goals are what motivated these players every second on the field. Being their last season together has made these goals even more prominent, but they don’t scare that easily. “That’s what I love about this team, is the determination we have to grow not just individually but as a unit,” said Senior Cole Sparkman.
Being a team isn’t just about the score, but the closeness of the players. Being together for 4 years makes a bond like no other. Even during the most intense games, everyone’s got each other’s backs. Being so close doesn’t come without its stories as well, from the Mega Mattress to Soco Polo, these boys have become something bigger than a team, but a family.
Without baseball, this family would have never connected.
“I wouldn’t have this tight group of guys if it wasn’t for baseball,” said Senior Kyle Stigler.
Baseball has been an outlet for many of the players. “It’s hard not to be romantic about baseball,” said Senior Evan Soco. Having that similarity allowed for their relationship as a team to grow. Although not everyone knew each other from the beginning of their careers, baseball has allowed them to forge together and create a welcoming environment.
“I was invited to go out to eat with everybody, and that was just a thing that stuck with me because they made me feel a part of the team,” said Senior Tate Frazier. Though he hadn’t become a part of the GCHS community until his sophomore year, the baseball team made it more than a sport ,but a home.
Though this may be their final season together, this team has made enough memories to last them a lifetime.
