Over 75% of Grant’s students don’t have a summer job. With the end of the school year rapidly approaching, students are gaining more free time. Students who have summer jobs get many personal benefits like developing a good work ethic, a sense of purpose, and financial pay. They keep the student’s mind turning making it easier to enter the coming school year. Many students that already have a summer job like junior Benjamin Thier says “As a student, it definitely helps with responsibility”. Taking a trip to the Grant College & Career Center, located in the library, can make finding a job that sparks interest a lot easier. You can make an appointment with Mrs. Masura at the college career center online. She can help with the work permit process, student job opportunities, internships, etc. Although some may complain of losing a social life due to their job, their job doesn’t have to be uninteresting. Mrs. Masura suggests “working at a park district with your friend or with them during a summer camp. You can get paid and still make it social”.

I joined journalism cause I've always loved the show "Smallville" my favorite character in the show was Chloe who was the head journalist. She always was looking for a story and she was definitely an inspiration for me joining. After joining I see that journalism is an important way of not just getting the news out there but also getting others stories out. The truth is what people seek and journalism helps them get it.
