With many seniors from Grant going to college many of us have to transition from the simpler life of high school to the more complex life of college. Many students will need to learn the true shift of going to college. Studying is one of the best ways people in high school pass their classes, however, the average student in high school studies for around 19 to 22 hours. In college, study time increases to 30 to 44 hours. With that ratio, many will find it hard to have free time. This is when students will have to learn to manage their time effectively,“ We don’t have to study in high school that much. It’s not as difficult as I would assume it would be in college,” senior, Vincent Cabonara will be attending CLC, will be using this info to his advantage.
The average young adult, ages 18 through 25 should sleep 7 to 9 hours to get the amount of sleep needed to be energized for the day to be productive but with many staying up late might be one obstacle as classes in college could be 3-5 hours which could be a struggle to stay awake to pay attention and work, the easiest option is to grab a coffee or energy drinks but, the issue with that is how it effects sleep schedules. Caffeine has side effects, especially those prone to anxiety, heart palpitations, and muscle breaking which will affect performance in class.
With college, comes many responsibilities, and with that comes independence. Many will move away from their parents, One thing is the college professors may not be as forgiving as the teachers here in Grant as your work and notes will become your responsibility. The expectation is to take your notes and not have constant reminders about assessments or tests, but most of all, you must make your own decisions. Senior Sean Buchanberger stated, “I think the hardest thing would probably just be the teachers not holding your hand as much as you’re a little bit more on your own”.The end of the transition from High school to college for some might be easy but for most, it might be a struggle with moderation and sticking to your plan the transition will be swift and easy
