Delanie Dochelli never imagined she’d achieve her dream of opening a bookstore, but she made it happen 12 years after graduating from Grant Community High School. The idea started when her former AP literature teacher, Mr. Gibbs, recommended “House of Leaves”. She enjoyed the novel, which started her overall love for books. Two years ago, she decided to take the leap and start the journey of opening her bookstore, despite concerns about financial risks and the business’s future.
“I signed a three-year lease. So what if after three years this isn’t going to continue?” Dochelli says. “I wouldn’t be able to say that I failed, because at the end of the day, I tried.”
Despite these obstacles, she continued to be eager to make her dream come true. Since learning about the start of her business, many have reached out to show and offer their support.
“The messages and love I have gotten from teachers at Grant and other local schools have been amazing,” Dochelli shares.
She also reconnected with Mr. Gibbs, reflecting on his impact on her journey.
“It’s been great catching up with him,” Dochelli adds, crediting him for helping shape her path.
