Track star Maxx Haas knows how to stay healthy and focused for the track. While also helping to encourage others to stay motivated.
Maxx has been doing track for about three years now. He was always fast in the other sports he played before like baseball, basketball, and cross country. So, he joined track and stuck with it ever since because he enjoyed track more than the rest of his other sports. “I feel like there’s different things you can do in track, not all the same race”, Maxx mentioned. His favorite race is the 800 he feels it’s the race he does the best in.
How Maxx has stayed successful through his years is staying consistent and eating healthy. On the track his strategy is to “get out fast in the first 400, then the rest just hang on”, Maxx said. With some help from his dad from supporting him in the stands, to helping him stay stretched and eating healthy for a good recovery after workouts. But his main goal for this season is to make state for the 800 but also meet a certain time he has in mind.
Unfortunately, last year he didn’t go to state. He missed the mark by one second in the 800, but that’s what keeps him motivated on the hard days to reach his goal. “I just push myself so I don’t have to see myself fall off again”. On the upside, he broke a school record this season for the 4×8. His favorite memory was at the county meet he attended last year. He had a good race in the mile and felt happy seeing his name ranked for his age group.
Like many athletes, Maxx’s favorite part of track is the people and community,Specifically Niko Damet. He’s a big motivation for Maxx and always pushes him through the workouts. Maxx has also returned the favor and likes to help Niko with being confident with himself when he’s having doubts Maxx is usually there to prep talk before races. He listens to Maxx’s advice, having respect for him as an athlete but also as a friend. “He knows when to have fun and he knows when to work hard he brings the team up a lot”, Niko stated.
Maxx wants to go D1 for track. In hopes, he will get a college scholarship. One of his coaches, Coach Nenni, thinks he is capable of achieving this goal “Maxx absolutely has an opportunity to compete collegiately if he so chooses”.
As Maxx has extreme goals set for him but it doesn’t end there, once they’re accomplished there’s always more to set. As long as he keeps staying consistent as he says “is key” it is possible to reach anything he wishes.
